We are passionate about working with vulnerable young people. We fundamentally believe that sport and exercise can change the course of someone’s life and that every child deserves the opportunity to experience exercise or sport.
Our Projects
From 2019-2020, less than half of children in the UK met the recommended amount of sport and exercise per day, and this figure gets worse when you adjust for socio-economic deprivation, which is on the rise. It has been shown that young people without a club or safe place to go to are at much higher risk of Child Criminal Exploitation.
At The Project PT, exercise is a vehicle for life-changing intervention work. Our coaches are experienced in trauma-informed practice, neurodiversity coaching and person-centred work, so can use exercise to support the development of life-enhancing skills for young people across Oxfordshire.

Strong Stance
Strong Stance is a dynamic boxing-based project dedicated to empowering vulnerable young people to make positive life decisions and stay safe within their communities. Recognising the challenges faced by those at risk of gang involvement and the pressures to carry weapons, Strong Stance offers an engaging and supportive environment where young people can build the skills and confidence needed to make healthier choices.
Through structured sessions, participants are taught the fundamental techniques of boxing, including how to safely and effectively perform jabs, crosses, hooks, and uppercuts, as well as defensive skills like blocking punches. But Strong Stance goes beyond teaching boxing techniques; it encourages creativity and personal expression through designing their own combinations and engaging in boxing-based games, allowing young people to channel their energy in a positive and constructive manner.
The impact of boxing as a tool for personal development is well-documented. A 2017 study from England Boxing found that boxing is particularly effective in re-engaging disaffected young people, addressing behavioural issues, and providing a pathway to improved life chances. Strong Stance harnesses this potential by fostering a sense of discipline, respect, and resilience among participants, helping them to develop not only their physical fitness but also their mental and emotional strength.
By participating in Strong Stance, young people learn valuable life skills such as perseverance, focus, and teamwork, which are essential for overcoming adversity and achieving personal goals. The programme aims to create a supportive community where young people can thrive, stay safe, and steer clear of negative influences, ultimately paving the way for a brighter and more secure future.

Lift Youth
Lift Youth is a transformative, referral-based programme designed for young people who are NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) or at risk of becoming NEET. This unique initiative provides participants with the opportunity to engage in weightlifting, boxing, skateboarding, and multi-sports sessions, offering them a chance to explore new interests and develop a range of skills. In addition, participants gain invaluable work experience through a 30-hour placement, helping them to build a foundation for future success.
The programme focuses on equipping young people with nationally recognised Level 1 Qualifications in Fitness and Pad-based Boxing. These qualifications not only provide a pathway into the fitness industry but also empower participants with a sense of achievement and purpose. Beyond these certifications, Lift Youth emphasises the development of crucial life skills such as emotional regulation, effective communication, and resilience. By learning how to manage their emotions and communicate clearly, participants are better prepared to navigate the challenges of everyday life.
Through the structured physical activities offered in Lift Youth, young people are taught how to train safely and effectively in a gym environment. They learn to use free weights, cardio equipment, and plyometric exercises to improve their physical fitness, while gym-based boxing skills help build strength, coordination, and discipline. These activities foster a sense of responsibility and encourage a healthy, active lifestyle.
Lift Youth is more than just a fitness programme; it’s a holistic approach to personal development. It supports young people in building confidence, fostering a sense of community, and developing the resilience needed to overcome obstacles. By providing work experience and educational opportunities, the programme helps participants to re-engage with education, pursue further training, or secure employment. Ultimately, Lift Youth guides young people towards a positive path for their futures, empowering them to make informed choices and achieve their full potential.

Momentum (& Summer Sessions)
From May to September, The Project PT runs girl-only skateboarding and boxing sessions to make these traditionally male-dominated sports more accessible and welcoming for girls and women. These sessions are part of The Project PT’s commitment to breaking down barriers in sports participation and empowering young girls to get involved in activities that promote fitness, confidence, and community.
With the growing popularity of skateboarding among girls, especially following the success of Sky Brown, Team GB's youngest Olympic medallist, there has never been a better time for girls to take up the sport. Skateboarding offers a unique blend of creativity, freedom, and athleticism, making it an exciting way for young women to express themselves while staying active. Similarly, boxing provides a fantastic opportunity to build strength, learn self-defence, and develop discipline and resilience.
The Momentum and Summer Sessions programmes are specifically designed to engage girls aged 10-17 who may be disengaged from physical activity. By offering free skateboarding and boxing sessions, The Project PT aims to create a supportive and inclusive environment where girls feel encouraged to try new things and push their boundaries. These sessions are more than just sports training; they are about building self-esteem, fostering friendships, and empowering young women to feel strong and capable.
Throughout the programme, participants have the chance to learn new skills, challenge themselves, and grow in confidence. The sessions are held in various locations across Oxfordshire, including Abingdon, Bicester, Carterton, Didcot, and Oxford City, ensuring that a wide range of communities can benefit from this initiative.
At the end of the programme, a celebration event is held to recognise and applaud the achievements of the young participants. This event provides an opportunity for the girls to showcase what they have learned, celebrate their progress, and be recognised for their hard work and dedication. It’s a powerful reminder of the impact that sports can have in building a positive and inclusive community for young women.

Young Leaders
After completing the Lift Youth programme, young people have the opportunity to further develop their skills by enrolling in the Young Leaders Qualification. This programme is specifically designed for those who have shown dedication, resilience, and a willingness to learn through their experiences with Lift Youth.
Building on the foundation of skills gained in weightlifting, boxing, skateboarding, and multi-sports, the Young Leaders Qualification allows participants to develop leadership and mentoring skills that will prepare them for future roles in their communities and careers. Young leaders engage in both practical and theoretical training, which includes advanced coaching techniques, peer mentoring, and planning projects.
This qualification not only enhances their physical abilities and fitness knowledge but also equips them with essential skills such as effective communication, emotional intelligence, teamwork, and problem-solving. Through hands-on experience and guided learning, young leaders learn how to motivate and support their peers, manage group dynamics, and foster a positive and inclusive environment in both sports and community settings.
By the end of the programme, young leaders will have earned a nationally recognised qualification that highlights their ability to lead, inspire, and make a meaningful impact. This experience empowers them to re-engage with education, secure employment, or pursue further training, paving the way for a successful and positive future.
